Amino showcases latest IPTV STBs at NAB2007

By John Virata

Digital Media Net caught up with Rick Sailor, VP of Sales, Americas for Amino at NAB to ask what the company is showcasing at the show as well as what IPTV trends that may evolve out of this year's show.

DMN: What products/services is Amino showcasing at this year?s NAB show in Las Vegas?
Rick Sailor: Amino will demonstrate the following solutions at exhibitor booth #C2243:

  • AmiNET125, the leading standard definition multi-codec STB designed for IPTV and Internet TV applications. With an Ethernet input and highly flexible audio and video outputs, the AmiNET125 provides a powerful means of delivering sophisticated interactive digital television that may be used with a wide range of home networking products. Its highly integrated chipset and agile codec creates a platform ready for future enhancement.
  • AmiNET130, the advanced HD H.264 (MPEG4/AVC) IPTV STB providing service providers a cost effective means to deliver end-to-end digital HDTV as multicast, on-demand video and multi-room IPTV services. With the support of HD video, end users receive an exciting and dramatic viewing experience, with greater clarity and detail especially in large display formats.
  • AmiNET530, a preview of the next-generation PVR IPTV STB with HD capabilities as well as other features including MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 (H.264) video codecs, alpha blending and the use of international fonts.

DMN: How has the market for IPTV evolved since last year?s NAB trade show?
RS: Last year, Amino was the recipient of the 2006 NAB award for Innovation in Media and the only STB vendor honored in the Content Delivery category. Since then, we have seen increased interest in new IPTV STBs supporting advanced video codecs, HDTV and capable of storing content in hard disk drives (PVRs)

DMN: How is Amino evolving to address the changing market?
RS: We have developed our product range according to customer demands based on our market insights and experience in IPTV. Last month, ABI Research declared Amino the world?s leading seller of IPTV STBs for the second consecutive year. This accolade recognizes Amino?s expanding footprint in emerging markets, as well as within the growing US market. Amino will continue innovating and providing high quality products and services to meet the technical requirements of the most demanding customers.

DMN: What trends do you expect to see with regard to IPTV at this year?s NAB?
RS: This idea of multiplay ? the movement towards any content, any device, any time, any place, any provider ? introduces many diverse opportunities for new solutions including the bundling of services and applications. As a proven leader in this space, Amino is committed to continuing its development of products and technology that connect the consumer to this expanding universe of services and devices.

DMN: What is the must see product at the Amino booth?
RS: You cannot miss the demo on the multi-codec AmiNET125 with Internet TV applications. IPTV service operators can now benefit from additional revenue sources and reduce customer churn by offering exciting Internet TV services as part of their IPTV bundle.

Internet TV should not be confused with the IPTV paradigm championed by Amino. IPTV enables major telecom providers and large media groups to implement closed, proprietary TV systems delivered via IP-based secure channels. Internet Television is instead an evolving web based framework that can provide video content to the consumer directly via a standard broadband connection.
